My name is Jimmy Smith and I am so excited about being the new Theatre and Debate teacher here at Aspermont. A little bit about me, I am from Earth and graduated high school from Post HS. Growing up my Father was a Baptist preacher, so you name a town in West Texas chances are I lived there. I attended college at Eastern New Mexico University on a football scholarship as an athletic trainer, doing a season long internship with the Houston Oilers (now the Tennessee Titans) before changing my major to Theatre my junior year earning my BS degree. I then attended West Texas State University receiving my Masters in Theatre/Communication. For 35 years I taught at several schools including Big Spring, Levelland and for 21 years at Princeton as Director of Theatre and Forensic. While at Princeton I was fortune enough to run a national rank program but after 35 years of teaching I retired. The problem is you cannot retire from something you enjoy, so I will be returning to what I enjoy the most, teaching. Over my teaching career I have been incredibly lucky and have had students advancing the UIL State Meet and National Speech and Debate Association National Tournament every year, and I hope that continues. Our goal this year is quite simple, advance at least 15 students to UIL State and 4 to Nationals.
PS, Coach Weaver is going to allow me to help on Friday nights, so I will see you on the sidelines!
